Athens

March 2021

After careful consideration, given the uncertainty of COVID-19 we regret to inform you that the ATHENS network has made the prudent decision to suspend the ATHENS March 2021 session.

We share your deep disappointment in this decision as all parties affected have put so much effort in this , however the health and safety of all students is paramount and in this unpredictable times this felt like the best decision to be taken in the students’ best interest.

We remain deeply committed to the value and importance of international education and look forward to resuming the ATHENS activities as soon as the times will allow it again.

ATHENS (Advanced Technology Higher Education Network, Socrates)

The ATHENS programme was established in 1997 with the support of the European Commission. It brings together 16 major technical European universities. It is mainly ParisTech (association of the 10 most important Grandes Ecoles d’Ingemieurs in Paris, namely ENGREF, ENPC, ENSAM, ENSCP, ENSMP, ENST, ENSTA, Ecole Polytechnique, ESPCI, INAGP), then CTU in Prague, TU Delft, KU Leuven, INST Lisboa, UCL Louvain-la-Neuve, UP Madrid, NTNU Trondheim, TU Budapest, TU Wien, Politecnico di Milano, TU München, TU Warsaw, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Istanbul Technical University and University Politehnica of Bucharest.

One-week intensive courses. Within the ATHENS programme, these universities provide to senior students of partner technical universities one-week intensive courses in modern science fields and top scientific technologies. Courses are offered twice a year (March, November). The scientific part of the courses is in English, French or Spanish in the extent of 30 hours. It is complemented by a cultural programme in the extent of 12-15 hours, in which students have the opportunity to learn more about the culture and environment of the country. It is common that after completing such courses, many students carry out their studies at this university. Courses are regularly evaluated in terms of quality.

CTU was invited to join this group of European technical universities in 2003. Membership in the ATHENS programme for CTU implies the obligation to organize several courses in Prague and allow CTU students to participate in courses at partner universities.

Important:

  • You can participate in the ATHENS programme (i.e. go abroad) usually only once!!! In case of a small number of applicants, it is possible to go abroad again. The selection process is responsibility of your faculty. If you have already participated in the programme in the past (you have gone abroad), you can re-enroll in the programme, but keep in mind that the priority will be given to your colleagues who have not yet participated in the programme. Of course, if you applied for previous sessions and you were not selected and did not participate in the programme, you can apply repeatedly.
  • The ATHENS programme is intended for CTU students who are enrolled in study programmes in the Czech language.
  • All questions concerning the ATHENS programme should be directed to Ing. Jana Dudková.
  • No credits are allocated at CTU for participation in the ATHENS course.
  • Registration for individual courses in March 2020 will be launched by Paris on 09.01.2020 – more details can be found in the Schedule, application form and deadlines tab.
